How it Works
VTAS deploys and operates sensors in customer approved locations to better protect communities by enabling timely interventions against active threats – fostering an unprecedented level of collaboration in support of community safety.

VTAS uses UMbRA, a real-time, multi-jurisdictional, law enforcement-only database. It is the largest fully privacy-compliant, real-time U.S. database of its kind, containing only verified, 100% law enforcement-sourced data.
UMbRA data is:
- Updated hourly with more than 52 million person records
- Growing by approximately 50,000 records daily, powered by law enforcement partnerships and a partnership with OffenderWatch.
- Multi-jurisdictional, searchable, and strictly limited to trained investigators and analysts in credentialed partner agencies
Data types include:
- Arrest, charge, booking data
- Convictions
- Probation and parole
- Active felony warrants
- Sex offender registry entries
- Records associated with missing or trafficked persons (for sensor-only use, not searchable)

A VTAS sensor detects and captures a single facial image when an individual enters a monitored space.
1. The image is securely compared to a 100% law enforcement sourced real-time database, known as UMbRA. The image is also compared to the customer’s database of individuals not allowed on property.
2. If there is no match, the image is deleted immediately. There is no access to, transmission of or storage of any biometrics. If a match is detected, a trained team of analysts reviews and verifies the match and determines the relative threat level based on the sensor location.
3. Within 60 seconds, relevant matches are sent to VTAS, which then notifies the customer, enabling them to take appropriate action.
4. If a match triggers an extreme case, such as having a felony warrant, law enforcement will be alerted. VTAS will notify the customer with same information.
